Bee pollen is a bioaccumulator — bees collect pollen from whatever flowers are within their foraging range (typically 3-5 miles). If those plants were treated with pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides, those compounds concentrate in the pollen. USDA Organic certification for bee pollen means the bees foraged in certified pesticide-free areas, significantly reducing chemical contamination risk. For bee pollen specifically, organic certification is more meaningful than for many other supplement ingredients.

Fresh bee pollen contains heat-sensitive enzymes, flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol), and carotenoids that begin degrading above approximately 45°C (113°F). Conventional drying methods use higher temperatures for speed, destroying these bioactive compounds. Greenbow's low-temperature drying process preserves enzyme activity and flavonoid content — the compounds most associated with bee pollen's anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and metabolic benefits in clinical research.

Start with 1 teaspoon (approximately 5g) daily for the first week to assess tolerance, then increase to 1 tablespoon (approximately 15g) daily. Granules can be eaten directly, sprinkled on yogurt, mixed into smoothies, added to oatmeal, or blended into salad dressings. Avoid heating bee pollen above body temperature to preserve its enzymatic and flavonoid content. Store in a cool, dry location or refrigerate for longest shelf life.

This depends on the type of allergy. Bee pollen is primarily entomophilous (insect-carried) pollen from flowering plants, which is different from the anemophilous (wind-carried) pollen from grasses and trees that causes most seasonal hay fever. Many seasonal allergy sufferers tolerate bee pollen well and some report desensitization benefits with gradual dose escalation. However, anyone with a known bee venom allergy (bee sting allergy) should avoid bee pollen products entirely. Start with a tiny amount and monitor for any reaction.
