- Green tea catechins increased fat oxidation by 16% compared to placebo (SMD = 0.56, 95% CI: 0.32 to 0.80, p < 0.001)
- 24-hour energy expenditure increased by approximately 100 kcal/day with EGCG doses of 270-800mg
- Fat oxidation enhancement was greatest during moderate-intensity exercise (+33%) vs rest (+12%)
- Effects were more pronounced in habitual low-caffeine consumers and those with higher BMI
- Body weight reduction averaged 1.38 kg over 12 weeks vs placebo (p = 0.002)
